I'm seeking a talented illustrator to create engaging, cartoonish artwork for a children's book aimed at young children (ages 4-7). The theme revolves around people at a dinner table. Key Requirements: - Style: Cartoonish - Target Audience: Young children (ages 4-7) - Theme: People at a dinner table This is a children's book told in rhyme. It is based on memories of my grandmother's apartment in the 1970-80's in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The basic concept is that there is a young girl who loves going to her grandmother's place for Friday night dinner. Everyone is welcome there. It is called "One More Chair." The basic concept is that as the evening goes on, more and more people come over for dinner. As they come, and ask if there is room at the table, grandma says, of course, just go get one more chair. The visual gag is the table gets more and more crowded, and the chairs get more and more unmatched, folding chairs, arm chairs, stools, etc. until there are no more chairs! What will happen when the little boy from the upstairs apartment comes down to join? Where will he sit? What will Grandma do??? Here is an example of the first few pages: The title of the book is, “One More Chair” Page 1 Illustration is: Shows Molly skipping down the street towards her grandmother’s apartment building. The sun is just beginning to set. The text is: Every Friday evening, Molly dashed through the air, To Grandma’s warm house full of love everywhere. Page 2 Illustration is: Grandma standing in open doorway welcoming Molly into the apartment. The apartment is on the second floor of the building, so there is a flight of stairs and a little vestibule that is visible where Molly is standing. Behind the Grandma is a long hallway that leads to the dining room. Grandma is wearing a short sleeve brown shirt with white lace design, tan slacks, and flat shoes. Her hair is grey but well-styled and short. She has kind eyes and a nice smile. Text is: The table was set with great food to share, Molly looked forward to her family being there. Page 3: Illustration is: Molly and Grandma are walking down the hallway, there are family pictures on the walls. They walk into the dining room. There is a long, dark wood rectangular table with 4 matching dining room chairs . There are 2 adults already sitting at the table. The table has place settings for 4. Foods such as roasted chicken, baked potatoes, green beans, and a big bowl of green salad , a loaf of rye bread are on the table. There is a poodle dog laying underneath the table and a grey striped cat sitting on the windowsill , a sheer curtain and a few plants on the same window. There is a wooden china cabinet on a wall and some art work on the walls, some still life of fall fruits. The Text is: They’d laugh and they’d chatter, they’d tell stories bright, They’d eat Grandma’s cooking and talk through the night, Everyone knew they were welcome in there, Just find a small space and pull up a chair. Ideal Skills and Experience: - Experience in children's book illustration - Strong cartoonish art skills - Ability to create engaging and age-appropriate visuals - Prior work with young children's themes Please provide a portfolio showcasing relevant work.
