I'm commissioning a made-to-measure medieval fantasy court jester costume inspired by the attached reference artwork. The overall aesthetic should be whimsical and elegant rather than theatrical or novelty. Think of a mysterious woodland jester or royal fool from a storybook—clean lines, flowing fabrics, and understated detailing instead of an exaggerated circus costume. Materials: Fabric choice is extremely important. The costume should primarily be constructed from high-quality stretch twill for the tunic and trousers to provide structure, durability, and ease of movement. A matte forest-green velvet should be used for the cape and select accents to add richness and depth. Wool felt is preferred for the four-point jester hat so it maintains its shape while allowing the points to drape naturally. Cotton twill may be used where additional structure is beneficial. Please avoid shiny satins or inexpensive costume polyester. Any supplementary fabrics should maintain a matte, handcrafted appearance. Colour Palette The costume should use a muted fantasy palette consisting of: Deep Forest Green (primary) Moss or Sage Green (secondary accent) Warm Ivory or Cream (instead of bright white) Antique Gold for bells, clasps, trim, and buttons Dark Brown leather for boots and belt (if included) The colours should feel earthy and medieval rather than vibrant or carnival-inspired. Costume Design The silhouette should closely resemble the provided reference images. The doublet-style tunic should feature large solid colour panels, split asymmetrically between forest green and ivory. The design should remain clean and uncluttered, with the contrast between the colour blocks creating the visual interest rather than heavy ornamentation. The trousers should remain solid dark green or black, fitted for ease of movement. A flowing short cape should drape from the shoulders, constructed in forest-green velvet with a cream lining. The cape should move naturally and give the costume an elegant, storybook quality. The four-point jester hat should match the tunic's colour palette, with alternating forest green and cream points finished with small antique-gold bells. Decorative Details Rather than covering the costume with traditional harlequin diamonds, I would prefer they be used sparingly. Possible locations include: The waist sash or belt Narrow trim around the tunic hem Sleeve cuffs Hat band The diamonds should be subtle, using sage and ivory tones or muted embroidery, so they act as tasteful accents rather than the primary design feature. Gold piping, antique brass bells, and understated embroidery are encouraged where appropriate. Deliverables Front, back, and side concept sketches or digital renderings before construction. Confirmation of all fabrics, trims, and colours (photos or video) prior to cutting. The completed costume consisting of: Doublet-style tunic Fitted trousers Flowing velvet cape Matching four-point jester hat Progress photos during construction, if possible. Sizing measurements will be provided once the design has been finalized. Please include your estimated production timeline, any questions regarding sourcing the specified materials, and any suggestions for improving durability while maintaining the intended medieval fantasy aesthetic. :D
