I'm looking for a talented digital illustrator to create a highly detailed, semi-realistic family illustration as a birthday gift for my partner. This is not intended to be a traditional family portrait. Instead, I want the illustration to feel like a quiet, peaceful moment from a story that never actually happened—but somehow feels completely real. The overall emotional feeling should be warmth, home, comfort, love, peace and togetherness. Think less "portrait." More "a beautiful memory." Artistic Style: The artistic direction should resemble the emotional, painterly feel found in games such as Life is Strange and the animated series Undone. The style should be: Semi-realistic Painterly Cinematic Soft lighting Emotionally expressive Warm color palette Story-driven Beautiful environmental composition The attached artwork references are only intended to communicate the desired rendering style, lighting, atmosphere and emotional tone. Please do not copy the characters or exact compositions from those references. The Scene: The illustration should depict: Two adults Three cats All together in one peaceful outdoor scene. Rather than standing and posing for a portrait, I'd like the illustration to feel as though the viewer quietly stumbled upon a genuine family moment. Setting: Golden hour. Warm sunset. A peaceful meadow surrounded by nature. Gentle mountains visible in the far background. Wild daisies growing naturally throughout the meadow (gerbera daisies are my partner's favorite flower). The atmosphere should feel calm, cozy and timeless. The Couch: The family is sitting together on a comfortable vintage-style couch placed naturally within the outdoor landscape. The couch should feel warm, lived-in and inviting—not overly modern. Almost as though someone's living room has been quietly placed in the middle of nature. Composition: I sit on the left side of the couch. My partner sits beside me, gently leaning toward me. I am is looking affectionately at my partner. My partner is looking back at me with a relaxed, peaceful smile. The goal is to communicate comfort, trust and genuine love rather than posing for a camera. The Cats: Each cat has a unique personality and appearance. Their individual markings and proportions are extremely important. Reference photos will be provided. Suggested composition: Cat 1 Sleeping peacefully across both of our laps, visually connecting us. Cat 2 Relaxing elegantly on the backrest of the couch while quietly looking toward the sunset. Cat 3 Standing with his front paws on one of the couch armrests, curiously watching a butterfly (or another subtle point of interest), bringing a little movement and youthful curiosity to the illustration. These placements are suggestions, and I welcome artistic input if another composition creates an even stronger emotional image. Reference Material: The final artwork will be based on reference photos of two real people and three cats. Those reference photos will be shared privately with the selected freelancer after hiring. I will provide to the artist organized folders containing: 01 - Me 02 - My partner 03 - Me & my partner together 04 - Cat 1 05 - Cat 2 06 - Cat 3 07 - Artsyle References References: Each folder will contain multiple labeled reference photographs. The reference photos are intended to accurately capture facial likenesses, body language, coloring and markings. Please do not recreate a single photograph. The final composition should be entirely original. Art Style References: The attached images are examples of the overall artistic direction we'd love. We're drawn to the painterly, semi-realistic style seen in Life is Strange 2 (video game) and Undone (animation) artwork—soft brushwork, warm cinematic lighting, expressive characters, and environments that feel cozy, peaceful, and emotionally rich. Deliverables: One completed full-color digital illustration. Minimum 300 DPI. Suitable for professional printing. High-quality PNG or high-quality JPG. Deadline: Final completed artwork should be delivered no later than September 2, 2026. This allows sufficient time for printing, framing and preparing the birthday gift before September 9. Revisions: Please include: Initial composition sketch At least two revision rounds One final polish pass Strong facial likenesses and accurate depiction of each cat are extremely important. More than technical perfection, I am looking for an artist who can capture warmth, home and genuine emotion in this dreamlike landscape memory of a time that never existed but could. If someone looked at the finished artwork, I would want them to feel: "This is what home feels like."
