UK Executor Spreadsheet — Fix and Full QA Brief What this job is This is a UK Excel workbook (11 tabs) sold as a standalone spreadsheet product on Etsy. It is not a companion to a separate workbook, so it must not reference one anywhere in the file. The buyer is typically someone acting as executor after a bereavement, often doing this for the first time and not confident with Excel. They will not manually resize rows or widen columns to see text that has been cut off. If a note, reference number, or date is not visible exactly as typed, they will assume it was not saved, which matters more here than it would in an ordinary spreadsheet. Fix and test with that person in mind, not just against the list below. Attached is a sample copy filled with a full fictional estate (dates, notes, references, amounts in every user entry cell). Use it to see the defects below and to test your own fix. Do not treat the list below as the full scope. It is a starting list from a first pass. You are being asked to test every tab properly and fix anything of the same kind you find, not only the items named here. What you must not change Unless a fix below specifically requires it, preserve exactly as they are: every heading box, merged cell, colour, font, border, sheet layout, print area, sheet protection setting, and formula. No inserted rows, no added guidance strips, no redesign. Do not rename tabs or move columns. The exceptions, where a change is required to fix a named defect, are listed explicitly under each item below. Nothing else should move. 1. Remove the companion workbook references On the "Start Here" tab, this spreadsheet is currently written as the companion to a separate "JustInCaseFamily UK Executor Workbook". Remove every reference to a separate workbook throughout "Start Here" and reword those lines so the spreadsheet stands alone as a dashboard and tracker in its own right. Check the other tabs too (the header banner on every tab currently reads "UK Executor Workbook Reference:") and reword consistently. Wording only, nothing else on those tabs should change. 2. Notes and long-text columns are getting clipped Confirmed cause: most Notes-style columns already have wrap text turned on, but the row heights are fixed at a small set of static values inherited from the blank template (for example, Progress tab rows currently use only 5 distinct heights across 41 rows). Once a wrapped note needs more lines than the fixed height allows, the extra lines are simply cut off and invisible, even though the underlying text is still stored in the cell. Fix required: every row containing a Notes, Description, or "what was discussed" style column should auto-fit its height to whatever content is entered, on every tab, so a short note and a long note both display in full. This applies at least to: Progress (Notes column) Notifications (Notes column, and Contact route) Assets & Liabilities (Notes column, both the checklist and the Assets/Liabilities tables) Beneficiaries (Specific gift/notes column, and Notes column) Notes Log (What was discussed, Action needed/follow-up) Expenses (Notes column) Test this by typing a two or three sentence note into several rows on each tab and confirming the full text is visible without manually resizing the row. 3. Reference and provider columns are getting clipped too Separate from the row height issue, some columns rely on wrap text being off and text simply overflowing into the next cell when that cell is empty. This works only when the neighbouring cell has nothing in it. As soon as a user fills in every column on a row (which is the normal case in real use), any reference or name longer than the column width just disappears at the column edge. Confirmed examples: "Reference / account" on Notifications, "Institution / provider" on Assets & Liabilities. Check every tab for the same pattern and turn on wrap text (with the row height fix in item 2) wherever a column of this kind exists. 4. Date cells showing a full date and time instead of just a date Confirmed cause: the following cells in the blank template have a date-and-time number format (yyyy-mm-dd h:mm:ss) instead of a clean date format, so any date entered in them displays with a trailing "0:00:00": Assets & Liabilities, column E ("Settled / transferred"), rows 21 to 29, 40, 42 and 43 Reference Sheet, cell D16 ("Creditor claim period closes") Fix required: change these cells to the same clean date format used elsewhere in the workbook (for example the format already used correctly on Progress column E). Then check every other date-entry cell in the workbook for the same fault, since these are unlikely to be the only ones. 5. Dashboard chart colours and legends The Asset Breakdown and Liabilities Breakdown donut charts currently use a single colour ramped through different tones (shades of blue, shades of orange), which makes adjacent slices hard to tell apart. Recolour each chart's segments with a clearly differentiated but cohesive palette, and increase the size of the small coloured legend squares next to each label so they are legible. 6. Dashboard "Money In vs Money Out" and "Executor Expenses" mini charts These are chart objects, not plain cells. Currently: The Money In and Money Out currency values wrap onto two lines inside their data label instead of fitting on one. On the Executor Expenses chart, the "Reimbursed" value is missing its £ sign while "Unreimbursed" has one, and "Unreimbursed" is also wrapping onto two lines. Fix required: apply a consistent currency number format to every data label on both charts, and either widen the label area or reduce the font slightly so each value fits on a single line. Flag it to us if the total, or the Money In/Money Out labels, would read better left aligned rather than however they are centred now. We are open to that specific layout change on this chart only. 7. Full test pass required Once the above are fixed, go through all 11 tabs (Start Here, Dashboard, Progress, Notifications, Assets & Liabilities, Money In-Out, Expenses, Beneficiaries, Reference Sheet, Notes Log, Lists) and fill every user-entry column with a long realistic value (a full sentence for any notes field, a full name and address, a long reference number) to confirm nothing else clips, disappears, or misformats. Report back anything else you find of the same kind, fixed, with a short note of what and where. This is a paid product going to real customers, so treat this as a full QA pass on the whole file, not a patch limited to the items above. 8. Also outstanding from a previous check The Status and Nation dropdown lists (Not Started / In Progress / Waiting / Complete / Not Applicable, and the Nation list) are missing from every tab that should have them, sourced from the hidden Lists tab. This was confirmed by inspecting the file directly: only plain date-range validation remains, no list validation anywhere. Restore this using Excel's standard data validation list type referencing the Lists tab, in the same way the date validations already work.
