I have an R-based tide-prediction program that currently reads only .csv files. I need the input layer expanded so the script will also accept both .xls and .xlsx workbooks. When an Excel file is loaded, the routine should automatically scan the date column, strip out any invalid dates, then insert the missing ones so the series is continuous before the data move on to the forecasting engine. The rest of the workflow must stay exactly as it is—same object names and downstream functions—so the change should feel invisible to the user apart from the new file-open dialog. I am comfortable if you rely on readxl, openxlsx, or similar tidyverse-friendly libraries, as long as they are loaded programmatically and clearly referenced in the updated script. Deliverables: • Revised R script (or modular function) that seamlessly imports .xls, .xlsx, and the original .csv format. • Date-cleaning logic covering invalid-date removal and automatic completion of any gaps in the sequence. • A short README or inline comments that explain what you added and how to toggle the feature if needed. I will supply a sample workbook and the existing code once we start; a quick turnaround is appreciated.
