I am trying to track down every article that covered a notorious “body-in-the-trunk” Memorial Day prank that ran in Philadelphia newspapers sometime between 1953 and 1960. The three papers that definitely need to be searched are the Philadelphia Inquirer, Philadelphia Daily News, and the Evening Bulletin. Please focus on microfilm, bound-volume, or other archive sources that give clear, full-page reproductions. The headline or text may include any of these phrases: “Body in the trunk prank,” “Memorial Day prank,” “1953-1960 prank articles,” or the more colorful line I have seen referenced elsewhere: “Red-Faced Cops Left With Empty Bathing Suit? Police Find Bob, Steve & Coletta.” Variations are possible, so a bit of creative keyword work inside the archive reader will be needed. Deliverables • Hard-copy printouts (or high-resolution photocopies) of every relevant article, showing the full newspaper page, date, section, and masthead. • A simple cover sheet listing date, page number, and which paper each clipping came from so I can file them quickly. Ship the physical copies to me once everything is gathered; I will, of course, cover reasonable mailing costs. PDFs or scans are welcome in addition, but the physical clippings are the priority for my research binder. If you already have access to Temple University Special Collections, Free Library of Philadelphia newspapers on microfilm, or a similar archive, this should move quickly. I am ready to green-light the task as soon as you confirm access and an estimated turnaround time.
