Developmental Editor Wanted — Middle-School Girls’ Workbook (Unpublished) I’ve written a workbook and Facilitator’s Guide for girls in grades 6–8, and I need a developmental editor to tell me the truth about it. This isn’t a grammar-and-commas job — I need someone who can assess the whole manuscript and tell me what’s working, what’s not, and whether girls ages 11–14 would actually connect with it. I don’t just need someone who knows editing — I need someone who gets middle-school girls. What I want your eyes on: • Flow and pacing • Whether girls would stay engaged • Encouraging tone vs. preachy • Clarity of instructions/activities • Repetition or places it loses steam • Opportunities for emotional impact • Overall publication readiness What you’ll send back: • Annotated manuscript with notes • 2–4 page summary: strengths, top-priority fixes, areas needing development, and your publication-readiness verdict Looking ahead: This manuscript is the first in a planned educational series. If we’re a good fit, I anticipate additional review opportunities as additional volumes in this series are already completed. I’m hoping to build an ongoing partnership to keep tone and quality consistent across the series. Who I’m hoping to find: Developmental editing experience in middle-grade, educational, or SEL publishing, plus a sense of humor and a real feel for how middle-school girls talk and think. Also helpful: an eye for what visually resonates with this age group — the draft includes illustrated character images. So I want someone who’ll flag if an image isn’t landing. Share your approach and a couple of examples of similar work. An NDA is required before materials are shared with shortlisted candidates.
