Call for Pitches: Local Food Stories, Told by Local Video Journalists We're building a global network of video journalists to uncover the food stories hiding in plain sight in your city. ** Please only respond to londish.videos(at)gmail.com with actual pitches ** Every place has a food story nobody's told on camera yet — the backstory of an ingredient nobody questions, the truck driver who moves produce across a border at 3am, the farmer fighting for a fair price, the trend quietly reshaping how a neighborhood eats. We want to work with journalists who know their city well enough to find that story — and who can shoot it. What food-related question does it answer? What We're Looking For We're recruiting freelance video journalists based in cities around the world to pitch original, character-driven food stories from where they live. We're looking for stories, not stock footage. If you've got something that made you stop and think "wait, someone should film this" - that's exactly what we want to hear about. Story categories (examples, not a checklist): The origin story of a local ingredient — where it comes from, who grows it, why it matters The hidden logistics of food — how something gets shipped, smuggled, imported, or moved across borders Farmer or food-worker rights — labor conditions, pay disputes, land struggles Emerging food trends before they go mainstream elsewhere Disappearing food traditions, techniques, or markets The people behind a dish, a product, or a supply chain most people never think about What makes a strong pitch: It's specific to a place, not generic — it could only be told from where you live There's a clear human subject or subjects, not just a topic It hasn't been widely covered on video before There's visual potential — real locations, real action, real texture How It Works You pitch us. Submit a short written pitch (see template below) describing the story, why it matters, who you'd interview, and what it would look like on camera. We review and respond. If we accept your pitch, we'll confirm scope, deliverables, and payment before you start filming. You film it. Once accepted, you shoot and deliver: At least 2 on-camera interviews with relevant subjects (e.g., the farmer, the trader, the chef, the worker) B-roll footage of the location, process, product, or activity central to the story You get paid. Compensation is for the accepted, delivered footage package (interviews + b-roll) — details on rates below. Compensation Payment is per accepted story, upon delivery of the full footage package (2+ interviews and b-roll as specified above) Rates vary by scope, location, and production complexity — we'll confirm the fee with you before you begin filming, so there are no surprises Payment is made after review of delivered footage meets the agreed brief Who We're Looking For Based in — and deeply familiar with — the city/region you're pitching from Comfortable shooting solo or with a small crew (camera, audio, basic interview setup) Able to secure access and consent from interview subjects Fluent enough in the local language to conduct interviews, with clean translation/subtitling if content isn't in English Prior journalism, documentary, or video production experience preferred but not required if your pitch and past work are strong How to Submit a Pitch Send us the following: Your name, city, and a link to your reel or past work Story pitch (300–500 words): What's the story and why now? What's the food-related question you are answering? Who are the key people you'd interview? What locations/visuals would you capture? Why is this story unique to your city? Availability — how soon you could film if accepted
