Project Overview I am looking for an experienced hardware and embedded systems engineer to design and build one integrated hardware unit that combines video capture, keyboard input, and mouse input. The unit will contain three separate functional modules: 1.Video interface 2.Keyboard interface 3.Mouse interface The source-laptop connections must remain physically separate: - One HDMI port for video input - One USB port for keyboard output - One USB port for mouse output The receiving laptop may connect through either: - One combined high-speed USB connection, or - Multiple USB and/or Ethernet connections The final connection architecture should be selected based on latency, reliability, implementation complexity, and cost. Video Interface The video interface should: - Connect to the HDMI output of the source laptop. - Be recognized as an external display. - Capture the source laptop’s video output. - Send live video to the receiving laptop. - Support stable, low-latency video transmission. Keyboard Interface The keyboard interface should: - Connect to the source laptop through a dedicated USB port. - Be recognized as a standard USB HID keyboard. - Receive keyboard commands from the receiving laptop. - Include a physical enable/disable switch and visible status indicator. - Stop sending input when disabled or disconnected. Mouse Interface The mouse interface should: - Connect to the source laptop through a separate dedicated USB port. - Be recognized as a standard USB HID mouse. - Receive mouse movement, clicking, and scrolling commands from the receiving laptop. - Include a physical enable/disable switch and visible status indicator. - Stop sending input when disabled or disconnected. Acceptance Criteria - All three functions are integrated into one physical enclosure. - HDMI, keyboard USB, and mouse USB ports are physically separate and clearly labeled. - The source laptop recognizes the video interface as an external display. - The source laptop recognizes the keyboard and mouse interfaces as standard USB HID devices. - The receiving laptop can access video, keyboard, and mouse functionality simultaneously. - Keyboard and mouse controls can be independently enabled or disabled. - Disconnecting one function does not permanently stop the other functions. - The system recovers after cables are disconnected and reconnected. - The complete system operates continuously for at least eight hours without a critical failure. - Final delivery includes the working prototype, firmware, application source code, schematics, PCB files, bill of materials, and setup documentation.
