# Project Brief: Children's Picture Book — KDP Print-Ready Formatting ## Project Summary I have a finished children's picture book — full manuscript text (final, locked) and complete illustration artwork/style reference for all 26 interior pages plus a front/back cover. I need a professional to take these existing materials and produce a print-ready, KDP-compliant interior PDF and cover file. This is primarily a **formatting/layout job**, not a request for new illustration work from scratch — though I'm open to a package that includes light illustration cleanup/finishing if needed. ## What I'm providing - Final manuscript text, word-for-word, all 26 pages (attached) - 4–5 storyboard iterations — earlier drafts of the illustrations with placeholder/draft text overlaid on each page (attached) — these were generated across several rounds of revision, so illustration quality, character details, and text placement vary somewhat between them - Dedication and copyright page text (attached separately) - Specific KDP error messages I've already received, so you know exactly what needs correcting (attached/described below) ## Important — what I need you to actually do with the storyboards Please don't simply pick one storyboard version and use it as-is. I'd like you to review all 4–5 storyboard iterations together, and for each of the 26 pages, select or combine whichever illustration best and most clearly depicts what's happening in the story on that page (referencing my final manuscript text for what each page needs to show). The goal is one single, cohesive final version that uses the strongest illustration choice per page across all the drafts — not a straight reproduction of any one storyboard. Then overlay my exact final manuscript text (not the placeholder text shown in the storyboards) onto each finished page. ## What I need delivered 1. **Interior PDF** — all 26 story pages plus my dedication and copyright pages (provided separately), illustrations + final text combined, built to these exact specs: - Trim size: 8.5" x 8.5" - Each page sized at 8.625" x 8.625" (trim + 0.125" bleed on all outer edges) - 300 DPI, CMYK color mode - Text and important visual elements kept at least 0.25" inside the trim line - Inside margin (gutter) at least 0.375" - All fonts embedded - Text placed exactly per my final manuscript — no paraphrasing, reordering, or invented dialogue - Dedication and copyright pages placed appropriately (typically dedication faces or follows the title page, copyright page near the front) — happy to discuss standard placement if you have a recommendation 2. **Cover file** — one single wraparound file (back cover + spine + front cover), sized correctly for my page count using KDP's cover calculator, 300 DPI, CMYK, 0.125" bleed, text/elements 0.25" inside trim 3. Both files should be ready to upload directly to KDP without further edits from me ## Known issues to fix (from prior KDP submission attempts) - Cover file was submitted at the wrong size (too small — needs full wraparound dimensions, not a thumbnail) - Text on several interior pages was sitting outside the safe margin - Fonts were not embedded ## Style reference Soft watercolor children's book illustration style, warm dusk/night palette (deep indigo, plum, warm ambers and golds), glowing round creature characters.
