I am inviting architects and architectural studios to submit concept proposals for the design of a contemporary private residence in Spain. The objective is to create an elegant, timeless and highly functional home using prefabricated concrete construction, combining outstanding architecture with practical, efficient living spaces. This is an opportunity to develop a unique residence from the ground up, and I am looking for an architect who shares a passion for modern design, generous proportions and exceptional attention to detail. Project Overview * Location: Madrid area, Spain * Construction system: Prefabricated concrete * Approximate built area: * 350 m² above ground * 150 m² basement The proposed areas are indicative and architects are encouraged to optimise the layout where appropriate. ⸻ Ground Floor (approximately 175 m²) The ground floor should focus on entertaining and family living. Requirements include: * Spacious entrance hall with an impressive staircase * Large, elegant living room * Separate dining room capable of comfortably seating 10–12 people * Separate kitchen * Guest toilet I prefer clearly defined rooms rather than open-plan spaces, while maintaining excellent circulation and visual connections between them. Large glazing, abundant natural light and a strong relationship with the garden are essential. ⸻ First Floor (approximately 175 m²) The first floor should comprise four bedroom suites. Master Suite A generous master suite including: * Spacious bedroom * Large walk-in wardrobe * Luxury bathroom Bedrooms 2–4 Three additional double bedrooms, each with: * Private bathroom * Walk-in wardrobe The master suite should clearly feel like the principal bedroom while maintaining balanced proportions throughout the floor. ⸻ Basement (approximately 150 m²) The basement should include: * Garage for approximately three vehicles * Private cinema room * Two double staff/cleaner bedrooms * Shared bathroom for staff * Guest toilet * Laundry room * Storage and plant room Where possible, I would like natural light introduced into the basement through patios or light wells. ⸻ Architectural Vision I am looking for a home that is: * Contemporary and timeless * Elegant rather than ostentatious * Minimalist without feeling cold * Designed around natural light * Functional for everyday family life and entertaining * Highly energy efficient * Well suited to prefabricated concrete construction * Strongly connected to the surrounding landscape I particularly appreciate clean architectural lines, generous ceiling heights, large openings and high-quality materials. ⸻ What I’m Looking For Interested architects are invited to submit: * A short introduction to themselves or their practice * A portfolio of relevant residential projects * An initial interpretation of the brief * Preliminary sketches, concepts or indicative floor plans * Their approach to prefabricated concrete construction * An outline of their design process and professional fees * An estimated programme for the project The floor plans I have prepared are conceptual only and are intended to illustrate the type of home I have in mind. I welcome alternative ideas and creative solutions that improve upon the brief. The successful architect will be selected based on the strength of their design concept, creativity, functionality, experience and ability to deliver an exceptional contemporary home.
