We currently have a three-bedroom home and with five kids, it’s just not working for us anymore - we’ve completely outgrown the space. We’ve already done a renovation to the existing house and are really happy with how it functions now, so the plan is to keep that part as is and build onto it rather than start from scratch. We’re looking to remove the existing carport and use that space to create a twostorey addition. The main goal is to add more bedrooms and give everyone a bit more breathing room. Downstairs, we’d like a master bedroom with an ensuite and a small laundry, all on one level so it works long-term as we get older. Upstairs would then be additional bedrooms and a bathroom for the kids. I’ve got a strong idea of how I’d like the roofline to work - essentially continuing the existing pitch across the new addition - but I’m not entirely sure how that translates in reality or how best to resolve it structurally and spatially. There’s also an opportunity to make use of the height created by that roof form, potentially incorporating a home office and a media or cinema-style space within that volume. Overall, we’re trying to create a practical, well-thought-out extension that gives us the space we need as a family, while making the most of the house we’ve already invested in. Scope of Works: Demolition and removal of existing carport Construction of double-storey extension (~6m x 12m footprint) Ground Floor (New Addition): Master bedroom with ensuite Small laundry Level alignment with existing house (raising slab as required) Upper Floor: Two additional bedrooms upstairs. Shared bathroom. Additional living or breakout space Roof + Form Integration: Extend and continue existing roof pitch from west side of house Create cohesive roofline flowing over new addition Resolve large internal volume created by extended roof form Internal Opportunities: Potential use of double-height/void space for: Home office Media / cinema room Design + Documentation: Concept design resolving structure, layout, and roof form Integration of new addition with existing dwelling Documentation for builder pricing and approvals Key Priorities: * Creating enough space for a large family (5 children) *Delivering 3 additional bedrooms + master suite *Maintaining functionality of existing renovated home *Designing a future-proof layout (master + key spaces on ground floor) * Resolving roof form and structure in a cohesive way * Keeping project cost-conscious and buildable * Maximising usable internal space (including void areas) *Achieving a practical, durable outcome
