TITLE: Technical SEO Specialist - Fix Google Indexing Errors & Get All Pages Indexed (goodpaws.in) Category: SEO / Technical SEO ABOUT US GoodPaws (goodpaws.in) is an India-based pet marketplace connecting future pet parents with verified breeders across multiple cities and breeds. The site is programmatic in nature - we run breed x city landing pages, so URL count grows fast and indexation discipline matters more than for a typical brochure site. Organic impressions are growing (roughly 1,200/day in mid-June to about 5,900/day in early July), so Google is clearly rewarding the pages that ARE indexed. The problem is that most of our pages are not. THE PROBLEM (current Search Console state, as of 20 July 2026) Out of 592 known URLs, only 254 are indexed (43%). 338 pages are excluded. Worse, the indexed count is going backwards - it peaked at 270 on 12 June and has since dropped to 254 while excluded pages climbed. Exact breakdown from the GSC Page Indexing report: - Discovered - currently not indexed: 112 pages (Google systems) - validation Started - Crawled - currently not indexed: 72 pages (Google systems) - validation FAILED - Not found (404): 66 pages (Website) - validation FAILED - Excluded by 'noindex' tag: 43 pages (Website) - validation FAILED - Page with redirect: 26 pages (Website) - not started - Blocked by robots.txt: 18 pages (Website) - not started - Alternate page with proper canonical tag: 1 page (Website) - not started Three validation attempts have already failed, which tells us previous fixes were either incomplete or never actually deployed. We are not looking for someone to re-request validation and hope. We want root-cause diagnosis and verified fixes. We will share the full GSC export and grant Search Console access on hire. SCOPE OF WORK 1. Full crawl and diagnosis - Crawl the site with Screaming Frog or Sitebulb and reconcile the crawl against the GSC export and our sitemap. - Classify all 338 excluded URLs into: fix, redirect, consolidate, or intentionally exclude. We need a decision on every single URL, not a sample. - Identify why the earlier validations failed. 2. 404s (66 pages) - Determine origin: broken internal links, stale sitemap entries, deleted breed/city pages, or bad external backlinks. - Restore, 301-redirect to the closest relevant page, or let them return 410 - with justification per URL. - Remove dead URLs from the sitemap and fix the internal links pointing at them. 3. 'noindex' tag exclusions (43 pages) - Audit every page carrying a noindex directive (meta robots tag and X-Robots-Tag header). - Remove noindex from pages that should rank; confirm the rest are intentional. - Note: we had a site-wide noindex incident previously that was resolved - verify no template, plugin, or staging config is reintroducing it. 4. robots.txt blocks (18 pages) - Review robots.txt and correct over-broad disallow rules blocking commercial pages. 5. Redirects (26 pages) and canonicals (1 page) - Eliminate redirect chains and loops; point internal links at final destinations. - Audit canonical tags for self-reference correctness and cross-page conflicts. 6. 'Crawled - currently not indexed' (72 pages) This is a quality/duplication signal, not a technical bug. We need: - A duplication analysis across our breed x city page templates (these pages are likely too similar to each other). - Specific, page-level recommendations on differentiation - unique above-the-fold content, localised sections, schema, internal links. - Implementation of the technical portion (schema, internal linking, templates). Content writing is out of scope, but you must give us a clear content brief. 7. 'Discovered - currently not indexed' (112 pages) - Crawl-budget and discoverability work: sitemap hygiene and segmentation, internal linking depth (nothing important more than 3 clicks from home), hub/category pages, server response time. - Audit the crawl stats report for host-load issues. 8. Structured data and sitemaps - Valid XML sitemaps, split by page type, containing only 200-status indexable canonical URLs. - Correct Product / LocalBusiness / FAQ / Breadcrumb schema where applicable, validated error-free. 9. Validation and monitoring - Trigger GSC validation for each issue type and monitor it to a Passed state. - Weekly written progress updates with the indexed/excluded count trend. DELIVERABLES 1. Technical audit document - root cause for every issue category, plus an explanation of why past validations failed. 2. URL-level action spreadsheet - all 338 excluded URLs with diagnosis, action taken, and status. 3. Implemented fixes deployed on the live site (you work directly, or hand off documented tickets to our developer - state your preference). 4. Corrected robots.txt, sitemaps, canonical and meta-robots configuration. 5. Content differentiation brief for the thin/duplicate template pages. 6. Weekly progress reports with GSC screenshots. 7. Final handover doc - what changed, what to monitor, and a checklist so new pages launch indexable by default. SUCCESS CRITERIA - Zero page-level errors in the categories under our control: 404, noindex, robots.txt block, redirect, canonical conflicts. - All GSC validations moved to "Passed". - Indexed pages at 90% or more of legitimate, intended-to-rank URLs within 6 weeks. (We understand Google's indexing decisions for "Discovered/Crawled - currently not indexed" are not fully controllable; we measure your work by fix quality plus the direction and pace of the indexed-count trend, not by a guarantee.) - No drop in existing impressions during the cleanup. MILESTONES Milestone 1 - Audit and action plan: audit doc + URL-level spreadsheet. 25% Milestone 2 - Technical fixes deployed: 404s, noindex, robots.txt, redirects, canonicals, sitemaps. 40% Milestone 3 - Discoverability and quality work: internal linking, schema, crawl budget, content brief. 20% Milestone 4 - Validation passed and handover: all validations Passed + final report. 15% REQUIRED SKILLS - Screaming Frog or Sitebulb (advanced), Google Search Console, GA4 - Proven experience with large or programmatic marketplace sites (1,000+ URLs) - Strong understanding of crawl budget, canonicalisation, and index bloat - Ability to read and edit front-end code (HTML/JS) and work with a dev team - Schema.org / structured data implementation - Clear written English and disciplined weekly reporting Nice to have: experience with Indian local SEO, marketplace or classifieds sites, or JS-rendered sites. SCREENING QUESTIONS (please answer in your proposal) 1. Our GSC shows 66 "Not found (404)" pages with a Failed validation. Walk me through your first three diagnostic steps and how you would decide between a redirect and a 410. 2. What is the practical difference between "Discovered - currently not indexed" and "Crawled - currently not indexed", and why does each require a different fix? 3. Share one case where you took a site from low indexation to high indexation. Numbers, timeframe, and what specifically moved the needle. 4. We have breed x city landing pages that are structurally similar. How do you make several hundred such pages genuinely index-worthy without spinning content? 5. Do you prefer implementing changes directly, or delivering specs to our developer? What access would you need?
