Looking to build a multi vendor web app for my customer. Something along the lines of the below WordPress + WooCommerce + a multi-vendor marketplace plugin + custom features for the business. # WordPress Multi-Vendor Marketplace Development — SchoolCycle ## Project Overview We are looking for an experienced WordPress/WooCommerce developer or development team to build **SchoolCycle**, a South African multi-vendor marketplace for buying and selling pre-loved school-related items. Products may include: * School uniforms * Sportswear and equipment * Textbooks * School bags * Stationery * Other school essentials The key feature is that products can be associated with specific schools. Example: **School:** St John's College **Product:** School Blazer **Size:** 12 **Condition:** Very Good **Price:** R450 Participating schools should potentially benefit financially from successful sales through a commission model. **Concept: Buy. Sell. Support. Sustain.** --- ## Preferred Technology Our preferred approach is: **WordPress + WooCommerce + Multi-Vendor Marketplace Plugin + Custom SchoolCycle Functionality** Potential marketplace solutions include: * Dokan * WC Vendors * WooCommerce Product Vendors * Another suitable solution The developer should recommend the best option based on the required functionality. Alternative technologies may be considered if they offer a better solution. --- # User Types ### Buyers Buyers should be able to: * Register and log in * Browse, search and filter products * Browse products by school * View product details * Purchase products * View orders * Potentially save favourites and communicate with sellers ### Sellers Sellers should be able to: * Register as sellers * Create a seller profile * Upload product images and descriptions * Set prices * Add size, brand and condition * Associate products with a school * Manage listings and orders * View sales and earnings * Receive payments A front-end seller dashboard is preferred. ### Schools Schools should have dedicated profiles/pages including: * School name * Logo * Location * Description * Products associated with the school Users should be able to browse products specifically linked to a school. A full school dashboard may be added in a future phase. ### Administrator The administrator should be able to manage: * Users and sellers * Schools * Products and categories * Orders * Payments and commissions * Refunds and disputes * Reviews and reports --- # Product Listings Sellers should be able to add: * Product name * Description * Price * Images * Category * School * Size * Brand * Condition * Colour * Location * Collection/delivery options Suggested conditions: **New, Like New, Excellent, Good, Fair, Used** --- # School Product Association This is a core feature. Products must be associated with a specific school. Example: **School:** St John's College **Category:** Uniform **Product:** Blazer **Size:** 12 **Condition:** Very Good **Price:** R450 Users should be able to search and filter products by school. The developer should recommend the best scalable technical solution, such as custom taxonomies, custom fields or another suitable structure. --- # Search & Filters Users should be able to search/filter by: * Product name * Category * School * Size * Condition * Price * Brand * Location * Colour Example: **School → Blazer → Size 12 → Under R500** --- # Payments & Commissions This is a critical part of the project. The platform may need to distribute revenue between: * Seller * School * SchoolCycle/platform The exact commission percentages are still being finalised. The developer must explain how the proposed solution would handle: * Platform commission * School commission * Seller payouts * Payment gateway fees * Refunds * Cancelled orders * Disputes We are interested in South African payment gateways such as PayFast, Paystack, Peach Payments, Ozow or another suitable provider. A potential payment flow is: **Buyer Payment → Payment Gateway → SchoolCycle Commission → School Commission → Seller Payout** The developer should explain whether automated commission calculations and payouts are possible. --- # MVP Requirements The first version should include: * WordPress and WooCommerce * Multi-vendor marketplace functionality * Buyer and seller accounts * Seller dashboard * Product listings and images * School association and school profiles * Search and filters * Product pages * Checkout and payment gateway * Orders * Basic commission functionality * Admin management Potential future features: * Advanced school dashboards * Automated school payouts * Messaging and reviews * Favourites and notifications * Courier integrations * Fundraising campaigns * Mobile application * Promoted listings * Loyalty/rewards system --- # Custom Development Some SchoolCycle-specific functionality may require custom development, including: * School database * School/product association * School filtering * School commission tracking * Custom reporting Custom functionality should preferably be developed in a dedicated custom plugin rather than directly modifying a third-party theme or plugin. --- # Website Pages The initial website should include: * Homepage * Marketplace * Browse Schools * School Profile * Product Page * Seller Profile * How It Works * Become a School Partner * About and Contact * Login and Registration * Buyer and Seller Dashboards * Terms & Conditions * Privacy Policy --- # Design & Technical Requirements The website should be modern, professional, user-friendly, mobile responsive and fast-loading. Applicants should have experience with: * WordPress and WooCommerce * Multi-vendor marketplace platforms * PHP, JavaScript, HTML/CSS and MySQL * WordPress plugin development * Payment gateway/API integrations * Responsive web development Experience with South African payment gateways is highly beneficial. The developer should also recommend suitable hosting, security, SSL, backups, performance and staging requirements. --- # Proposal Requirements Please provide: 1. Examples of multi-vendor marketplaces you have built. 2. Examples of WooCommerce marketplace projects. 3. Experience with Dokan, WC Vendors or similar platforms. 4. We are specifically looking for someone who understands the difference between a normal WooCommerce store and a multi-vendor marketplace involving multiple sellers, schools, commissions and payments.
