Vintage Watch Cosmetic Restoration Required I am looking for an experienced watch restorer, watchmaker, or metal-plating specialist to cosmetically restore a vintage wristwatch. The watch is currently in generally good and fresh condition, and the movement has already been tested and is working. The work required is mainly cosmetic. The movement must not be replaced or unnecessarily modified. Scope of Work 1. Crown replacement * The existing crown’s chrome plating has worn away, exposing the brass underneath. * The crown should be replaced with a suitable new crown that is slightly larger and easier to wind than the original one. * The existing stem may be reused if suitable, or replaced and correctly fitted if required. 2. Crystal restoration * The existing crystal must be thoroughly polished to remove scratches and restore as much clarity as possible. * The goal is to make the crystal look as close to new as reasonably achievable. * Please mention whether the crystal material can be polished successfully or whether replacement would be a better option. 3. Case stripping, polishing, and replating * The existing worn coating must be completely and carefully removed from the watch case. * The underlying brass case should then be properly cleaned and polished. * The case must be replated with a bright, durable, chrome-like silver finish. * The finish should be smooth, even, reflective, and visually close to the watch’s original appearance. * Important engravings, edges, case dimensions, and structural details must not be excessively polished or damaged. 4. Orange Super-LumiNova application — optional * If technically possible, I would also like orange-coloured Super-LumiNova or a similar high-quality luminous compound applied to the existing hands and hour markers. * The application must be neat, evenly coloured, and appropriate for the vintage design of the watch. * Please quote this separately as an optional service. Important Requirements * The watch movement is currently working and must remain protected throughout the restoration. * The watch must be carefully disassembled before polishing or plating. The complete watch must not be dipped or plated with the movement, dial, crystal, or internal components installed. * The dial, hands, movement, engravings, case shape, and original components must not be damaged. * The watch should be properly reassembled and tested before being returned. * Please do not replace any original part without informing me and receiving approval. * Any removed original components must be returned along with the watch. When applying, please provide: * Photographs or examples of previous watch-restoration, polishing, replating, crown-fitting, or lume-application work. * A detailed explanation of how you intend to complete the restoration. * The plating material and process you propose to use. * Your total quotation, including parts, labour, shipping, and Freelancer fees. * A separate quotation for the optional orange lume application. * The estimated completion time. * Your location and instructions for safely sending the watch to you. The watch will need to be returned fully assembled, functioning, and cosmetically restored. I am looking for someone experienced with vintage watches and delicate plated brass watch cases, not merely a general polishing service.
