Ernest Wright Ltd have been making scissors and shears by hand in Sheffield since 1902. We are looking for a freelance social media manager to take over day-to-day running of our Instagram, TikTok and Facebook accounts on an ongoing monthly basis. Our situation is unusual and worth understanding before you apply. We have a genuinely engaged audience built largely on people's fascination with the craft itself, and we do not need help finding an angle. What we lack is someone with the time to post consistently and to reply to the volume of comments and messages we receive. Our workshop is small and every hour a maker spends on a phone is an hour not spent making scissors. The monthly work covers around sixteen posts across the three platforms, drawn from footage and photographs we shoot in the workshop and send you weekly. You would handle selection, light editing, captions, hashtags and scheduling, along with daily comment and message responses during UK working hours. Anything that is a genuine sales enquiry gets forwarded to us rather than answered. We also want a short monthly summary of what performed and what did not, in plain language rather than a dashboard export. Tone matters more than anything else here. Our audience responds to quiet, unhurried, factual content about how the work is done. They do not respond to trend-chasing, manufactured urgency or captions written in the voice of a brand rather than a workshop. If you have only worked with fast-moving consumer brands, this will probably not suit you. Please note we make to order with a lead time of around twelve weeks, so content should never imply immediate availability. We will provide brand guidelines, account access, weekly raw material and a named contact in the workshop.
