I have a mature astrology application written entirely in Visual Basic 6 and I now need a clean, well-structured API layer so the core engine can be called from other systems—first priority is seamless integration with external database systems. Here is what I’m after: • A standalone DLL or COM-visible library (VB6 compatible) that exposes the key calculation routines and data objects in a way a modern service can consume. • A thin REST/HTTP wrapper (preferably in .NET or classic ASP if you feel safer staying closer to VB6) that forwards incoming requests to the VB6 layer and handles JSON responses. • Connection logic that can talk to common relational databases—at minimum it should work with any OLE DB provider so we can plug in SQL Server, Access or another engine without rewriting code. • Clear, commented source code plus a short README illustrating example requests, connection string placeholders and expected response formats. Acceptance will be based on: 1. I can call an API endpoint from Postman, pass a sample birth-chart parameter set and receive the same calculation results the desktop UI shows. 2. The API can read and write records in an external database table I specify during testing. 3. All dependencies are documented and the project builds from scratch on a clean Windows VM running VB6 IDE and the chosen web stack. If you have solid VB6 experience and have bridged old codebases to REST or database services before, this should be straightforward. Looking forward to working together.
